The doctors diagnosed a cyst on one of his vocal chords, that (the cyst) has to be removed immediately. Without a surgery his voice could be affected so strongly that he would never be able to sing again. The completely sold out Europe-tour with concerts in Italy, Sweden, Slowenia, Serbia, Finnland, Danmark, Norway and a show in Dortmund have to be cancelled. A HUGE SHOCK FOR MILLIONS OF FANS ACROSS THE WORLD! "Bill has already been in supervision of doctors in the beginning of last week, because of laryngitis", says TH-producer and manager David Jost. A further examination showed that a nub has developed on one of the vocal chords, which makes it impossible for the laryngitis to heal. The cyst has to be removed in a surgery this week. How can such a cyst develop" Mostly a nub on the vocal chords, a so called singers' knot, develops because of an overstraining of the voice, says Doctor Julia Vent from the University-Hospital Cologne. If a singer sings too loud or with wrong pressure such a nub can develop. That is encouraged, if the vocal chords are already affected by an infection. A cyst in the larynx is a small bubble filled with liquid. The surgery is made by inserting a pipe through the mouth. With help of a microscope the cyst is cut out with tiny, sharp scissors. After the surgery Bill has to go through a several-weeks long rehabilitation, to avoid long-term damage. Producer David Jost: We really hope, that the fans understand that Bill s health has to be in the foreground. Further concerts called off: Tuesday, 25. M�rch 2008 According to media reports, Bill has to undergo an operation on his vocal cords. Due to an infection, a fluid filled cyst had formed that has to be removed. This operation is routine which is done daily in many Throat-Nose-Ear clinics and will be done under a full anesthesia which only lasts about 20-25min. The danger that the voice gets permanently damaged during/after the operation is very low. However, you need to rest your voice for at least a week after the operation and further weeks to recover. The rest of the current European tour and the US tour in April don t look like it'll take place. Tokio Hotel's manager and producer David Jost hopes: "that the fans will understand that Bill's health has to be put first." In the specialist report from Bill's doctor it says: "By Mr. Kaulitz there is a significant organic thickening in the middle third of his left voice cord... It is a thickening intracordale voice lip cyst with a secondary epithelial thickening and posing." ENT physician Dr. Thomas Disselbeck (50) explains the illness: "Bill has a cyst on the inside of his left voice cord that's already growing on the outside. That could indicate that he overused his voice despite the cyst. That he can no longer do, otherwise it could turn out far worse." Next it states in Bill's medical file: "The problem of such is that the collision forces the voice lip to hit against a not so smooth voice lip surface that strains more on the area of thickening." The specialist explains what that means; "Normally the vocal cord beats in speaking stretches out over the entire length of each other that creates the sound. When Bill strikes the right vocal cord with the cyst, it means that his voice is rough and his singing voice will break off in the middle." FOR THE SINGER A DISASTER! Then it says in Bill's file: "Mr Kaulitz will have a surgery in which the cyst will be removed and the voice cords reconstructed." Dr. Disselbeck explains the technical terms: "This means that the cyst will be removed under a microscope with a fine scissor. Then the mucous smoothed out so that it can return to its original state. " What does this mean for Bill next" The doctor: "He may not speak for ten days after surgery and will need voice training for the next three weeks with a speech and language therapist to strengthen his voice." The Tokio hotel producer and manager David Jost tells: The operation will probably be done next Monday , and you can be sure of it that this won t be a quick fix , even when the surgery is just small and goes well. Jost explains: Right after the surgery Bill isn t allowed to speak for 10 days, and the healing of his vocal cords will be closely watched by his doctors. The healing time will be about 3 weeks . Update [29.03.2008]: This is how Bill spends his last hours before the surgery! The operation of Bill was planned for Monday but his doctors are now discussing if they maybe should operate on Sunday. Bill s twin brother Tom has given an exclusive interview to BILD am Sonntag: BILD am Sonntag: Tom, Your brother will be operated today or tomorrow. How is he spending his last days at home" Tom Kaulitz: Bill is lying in bed most of the time watching tv. We have given him some dvd s so he will finally shut up. At the moment he is watching the complete seasons of prison break , that keeps him busy. Every now and then he drags himself downstairs to the refrigerator in his training suite and gets himself something to eat. If he would finally put himself in front of the tv with a box of beer to watch Fussi I would be really proud of my little brother. I think that really could be something (laughs) Who is cooking for Bill" Tom Kaulitz: At the moment I am cooking for him every day, spaghetti with a singular sauce. The sauce is if I can say it myself absolutely awesome. I think he is becoming sick of it, but he can hardly complain not even because he has to save his voice. Bill is also a more awful cook then I am. Every now and then our mom comes to visit, you can see from Bill s face that that makes him happy, when she is doing the cooking then. If you take everything at once, you probably be on good trip. Tokio-Hotel-Manager: Bills OP went well The voice cord operation of Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz [18] was successful according to his manager. If everything went well will become clear in the next few weeks. He has survived. Yesterday in the afternoon Tokio hotel singer Bill Kaulitz (18) is operated on his vocal cords. A cyst is removed from his left vocal cord. His twinbrother Tom and his parents were constantly with him. His doctor is one of the best in his expertise. During the surgery everything went smooth and the doctor is very optimistic , tells Tokio hotel producer and manager David Jost shortly after the operation. However, Bill is still worried. Understandable. The procedure can lead to change in his voice. It can become darker or brighter. If Bill s voice will sound like before is impossible to say right now , according to David Jost. Spiritual support Bill got from his Talisman , twinbrother Tom and his parents. They are constantly with him in the clinic , Tell Jost. Today or tomorrow Bill will leave the hospital again. He has to go back to the doctor every day for the next week for evaluation . And not one word is he allowed to speak for the next 10 days!
